Lady GaGa and Katy Perry have secured five nominations each for this year's MTV Europe Music Awards.
The two performers will compete with each other for the 'Best Pop' and 'Best Female' prizes, as well as in the 'Best Song' and 'Best Video' categories. Perry's 'California Gurls' has received nods for 'Song' and 'Video', while GaGa's 'Bad Romance' and 'Telephone' featuring Beyoncé are nominated for both gongs respectively.
GaGa, who walked away from last year's ceremony with the 'Best New Act' trophy, will compete with rockers Bon Jovi, Muse, Kings of Leon and Linkin Park for the title of 'Best Live Act'. Meanwhile, Perry's fifth nomination sees the 25-year-old go up against Green Day, Muse, 30 Seconds To Mars, Gorillaz and Tokio Hotel for 'Best World Stage Performance'.
Kings of Leon, who were nominated for five awards at the 2009 EMAs, have a second nomination for 'Best Rock'. Jared Leto's band 30 Seconds To Mars are nominated for three prizes, including 'Best Rock' and 'Best Video' for 'Kings & Queens'.
Eminem's successful comeback continues with a total of four nominations, while RNB giant Usher appears in three categories.
X Factor winner Alexandra Burke makes an appearance in the 'Best Push Act' category, competing with fellow Brit Professor Green and The Drums against US pop sensation Justin Bieber, ex-Disney star Selena Gomez as well as The Scene, Ke$ha, Jason Derulo and B.o.B.
Bieber is also nominated for 'Best Male', and joins Ke$ha, Derulo, B.o.B and Plan B in the 'Best New Act' lineup.
This year's MTV EMAs will be held in Madrid on November 7.
