Julianne Moore 'married for children'

Julianne Moore has admitted that she got married to provide a stable family environment for her children.

In an interview with The Guardian, Moore said that she never seriously considered marrying husband Bart Freundlich until she thought about how it would affect their son and daughter.

"The only reason I got married in 2003 was for my children. I had a therapist who said marriage is really a container for a family, and that made sense to me," the 50-year-old explained.

The Kids Are All Right star and Freundlich had son Galeb, 13, and daughter Liv, 8, before they married eight years ago.

Moore added that family is now one of her top priorities, saying: "I want to be with my husband and kids as much as I can. Some celebrities take their children everywhere with them - despite having to pull them away from school and friends.

"Because of my own childhood experiences, I try to work in New York or during the summer, when my family can come with me."

Julianne Moore 'supports same-sex parenting'

Julianne Moore has said that she supports same-sex couples' right to adopt and raise children.

The Oscar nominee plays a lesbian parent in The Kids Are Alright, but she told CNN that her support for gay parents preceded her work on the movie.

"It's something I've believed in for a long time," she said. "People ask if I think that movies influence popular culture, and yes, in a way, but I always say that movies more often reflect popular culture. A movie like this can't exist if it's not something that's already happening all across the United States."

She continued: "There are so many gay families - so many two moms and two dads - and very normal, very idiosyncratic, really regular American families happening all over the place."

Moore added that she teaches her own children that heterosexual and same-sex couples deserve to be treated equally.

"The fact that this movie exists is really a way to recognise that. In my life and in my children's lives, gay families are just part of the fabric of their world. We know plenty of families with two moms and two dads, and you know, they're just the same as we are."

The Kids Are Alright is now playing in US cinemas and is released in the UK on October 29.

Sex scenes 'an issue'

Actress Julianne Moore has conceded that sex scenes are difficult for her to shoot.

The 49-year-old's latest movie, The Kids Are All Right, features several scenes of an adult nature between Moore and co-star Mark Ruffalo.

Despite rave reviews of the surprise hit, Moore has admitted that she finds sex scenes both awkward to shoot and to talk about.

"My husband hasn’t seen the film yet," Moore told Australian Women's Weekly. "I try not to ever talk about the sex scenes in a film.

"It’s always an issue, so the less I talk about it, the better. I act like it’s not happening."

However, Moore insisted that shooting with Ruffalo could have been worse, saying: "Mark is a really good friend so that made it easier. I’m really good friends with his wife."

Moore is married to director Bart Freundlich, with whom she has two children.
