As director David Fincher readies the American version of the international hit The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, the original Swedish version's "girl," Swedish actress Noomi Rapace, has landed a role in the upcoming sequel to Sherlock Holmes.
The second installment of the hit film will star Robert Downey Jr. in the title role. Jude Law will return as Dr. Watson and Daniel Day-Lewis will play Holmes' adversary Professor Moriarty in this film. Guy Ritchie will direct the film, due in theaters December 2011.
Rapace also played the Lisbeth Salander character in the sequels based on the best-selling novel series by late author Stieg Larsson. She will join the Holmes cast as the female lead, according to entertainment publication The Hollywood Reporter.
Rooney Mara (Nightmare on Elm Street, The Social Network) will play the role of the computer hacker in upcoming remake of The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo.
